Greek Mythology Group 2: Katie, Lea, Sarah, Dani, Kelsey
Oedipus
He was a tragic king who killed his dad and married his mother. The gods were angered by his actions and cursed Thebes by placing a sphinx at the gates. Oedipus defeated the sphinx by answering its riddle correctly and the sphinx threw itself from the gates to its death.

Antigone
Antigone decided to return to Thebes to help her brothers. Electives and Polyneices predicted the would kill each other in battle. Antigone learns they are killed, and she defies the king to bury her brothers, gets caught, and then kills herself.

The Fall of Troy
The Greeks and the Trojans went to war for 10 years. King Menelaus gathered all the Greeks together to unite against Troy in order to retrieve his stolen wife, Helen, from the Trojan prince, Paris. He promised the Greeks a quick and fruitful war, little did he know that it would take over a decade to defeat the Trojans.

Wooden Horse
In order to infiltrate the Trojan camp, the Greeks hid inside a giant wooden horse and waited for the Trojans to receive it as a type of surrender gift.

Paris
Paris decided between Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite who was the most beautiful. Aphrodite bribed him with the most beautiful mortal woman, Helen, to pick her. He then abducted Helen and started the Trojan War.

Helen
Helen of Sparta was the most aspired character of all time. The Trojan war was fought for 10 years over her. She was the wife of King Menelaus.

Achilles
From birth, Achilles was said to be the “best of the Greeks”. His mother was a powerful water nymph and his father was a king. He was said to be invincible, thus, he was called upon to be a hero in the Trojan War. He defeated many Trojans, including Hector, but he was unfortunately killed at the end of the war.

Hector
Hector was the Trojan hero who was called upon to try to kill Achilles. He slaughtered Achilles’ best friend/lover, Patroclus, and thus was killed by Achilles at the end of the Trojan War.

Midas
Midas was a king who was granted 1 wish by Dionysus. He wished for everything he touched to be gold. Then his food turned to gold and then he turned his daughter to gold. He eventually reversed it by washing himself in a river.

Bacchus
God of wine and holidays, due to the excessive drinking and things turn into an uninhibited party.

Agamemnon, Orestes, and Electra
Agamemnon married Clytammestra and they had 3 children, Iphegenia, Electra, and Orestes.

Leda and the Swan
Leda was raped by Zeus disguised as a swan. She got pregnant and gave birth to Helen of Troy. Helen is the reason for the Trojan War.

Pandora
She was the first woman on Earth. Hermes gave her a box that she was told not to open. Her curiosity was too great and she eventually opened the box, letting out all the bad in the world. But there was hope at the bottom of the box.

Odysseus
Leader of Greek forces during the Trojan War. He was known for cunning strategy and wise council. After the Trojan War, he tried to get back home to Ithaca but was deterred from his path. It took him another 10 years to return home to his wife and son. This great adventure was known as the Odyssey.
